2022 Tax Abatement Agreements, Guidelines and Criteria

Current taxes refer to property taxes, which are due during the period of October 1 to June 30, as opposed to taxes due last year. Property taxes are assessed upon property or real estate, building, and for businesses on their equipment and inventory. However, the City exempts some of the value on residential property.

  • All homeowners are eligible for a 20% homeowner’s exemption.
  • Homeowners over the age of 65 receive an additional homestead exemption in the amount of $6,000.
  • Disabled veterans also receive exemptions based upon the degree of their disability.

Property valuations are established by the Rusk County Appraisal District and given to the City Council from which the tax rate is set. Taxes are due on October 1 of each year and become delinquent or past due on February 1 the following year.
