Citizens Police Academy is a free course for the citizens of Henderson to become familiarized with the policies, procedures and divisions of the police department. This course is held in the evenings at the Henderson Police Department once a week in the springtime. Refreshments are provided by the CPA Alumni Association. Typically, this course is about 13 weeks in length, with the last week involving a graduation ceremony for students, teachers and families. Students also receive a diploma upon completion. Once the course is completed, students graduate with a clearer understanding of what law enforcement actively does and represents for the city.
Additional benefits of completing this course include the following:
Membership with Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, a non-profit organization that fundraises and donates equipment, etc. back to the police department. The Henderson Chapter is a member of the Texas Citizens Police Academy Association. Becoming a member also allows you to request and participate in ride-a-longs with patrol.
