Webster Drive will now be known by both Webster Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive! City Council voted and approved the historical overlay of Webster Drive to be named Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in the December 8th council meeting after the item was brought to council a few months prior. This change will continue to recognize the impact of Webster Flanagan within the community while also honoring Martin Luther King Jr. for his impact as well.
The main goal of a historical overlay is to preserve the historic character of a neighborhood. With this change, the United States Postal Office will now recognize both Webster Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
The neighborhood community will gather to celebrate this honorary street name at the parking lot of Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church's parking lot on Saturday, January 16th at 10am. A short program will include a proclamation read by Mayor Buzz Fullen, as well as an MC, music and celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. All are invited to attend. Coffee, hot chocolate and donuts will be provided.
