City of Henderson, Texas

Job Description:

Located in the Piney Woods of East Texas between Tyler, Longview, and Nacogdoches, The City of Henderson has a population of more than 13,700.  The County seat of Rusk County, Henderson has served as a center of commerce for nearly two centuries.

The City boasts a vibrant downtown that has been part of the Texas and National Main Street City program since the 1970’s.  It is home to the acclaimed Syrup Festival that draws tens of thousands of visitors every second Saturday in November.

Henderson is a home rule City operating under the Council Manager form of Government. The Mayor, elected at large, and 5 councilmembers, elected by individual districts, serve 2-year terms.  As a full service City, the City has approximately 125 FTE employees. Reporting to the City Manager are the Fire Chief, Police Chief, Public Services Director, Utility Director and Finance Director.

General Qualifications & Experience:

The selected candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration or a related field, and at least five (5) years progressively responsible in public  administration, with at least (3) years involved in city management or government administration. A Master’s degree and at least 5 years of experience as an assistant City Manager, City Manager, or head government administrator is preferred.

Residency within the City of Henderson is required immediately upon appointment.
